Application period 3rd – 22nd SEPTEMBER 2024
In 2025, the Titanik artist-in-residence programme is happy to host process and research residencies for artists who work in the intersections of sound and performance arts, and are looking for an opportunity to live and work in Turku for up to three months between March and December 2025.
The residency programme aims to provide time and space for artists to focus on their work without the pressure of presenting a final work. However, if an artist wishes to share their work-in-progress in the format of a workshop, an open studio, a performance, a screening, or a talk, we are happy to help organise it.
What Titanik offers:
For the duration of the residency, an artist or a duo is hosted in a studio (20m2) adjoining the contemporary art space Titanik and library, located in the city centre of Turku. Residents are welcome to use Titanik’s audiovisual equipment during their stay (availability depends on Titanik’s exhibition programme). The residents are also provided free accommodation in a fully equipped 25 m2 studio apartment close to the city center, within walking distance from Titanik. The apartment is suitable for one person or a couple. Unfortunately, the apartment is not wheelchair accessible.
The residency programme is currently self-financed and during their stay, the artists fund their own travel as well as living and working expenses, including food, transportation, and materials. We will gladly provide invitation and reference letters for selected applicants.
To apply send us an application that includes:
– motivational letter up to 1000 characters of what you might want to work on during your residency and why you wish to do that in Turku
– your preferred date and length of the residency
– a link to a sample of recent work (e.g. website/Vimeo)
– CV (max. 2 pages)
Do let us know if there is anything that we might work on specifically to make your stay in Turku more accessible.
Send your application to titanikgallery@gmail.com as a one single PDF file by 22.9.2024 23:59 (GMT +3). Applications that do not follow the instructions will not be considered.
We accept applications in Finnish and English. For more information, please, contact Saskia Suominen at director@arte.fi.
The residents for 2025 are selected by the Arte board: Anastasia (A) Alevtin, Outimaija Hakala, Anna Tahkola, Frans Paldanius, Isto Rahkila, Inari Sandell and Antti Tolvi.
Titanik A.i.R. programme has been run by the Arte Artists’ Association since 2006. It is hosted by Titanik, a contemporary art space located in Turku, on the Southwestern coast of Finland. Titanik aims to create a space for unexpected encounters, artistic interchange and critical discussion. No form of harassment or discrimination is tolerated at Titanik. In addition to exhibitions, Titanik hosts a variety of open public and project-based events, such as concerts and performances.
