Titanik artist-in-residence programme (Turku, Finland) offers residencies for artists working in the intersections of sound and contemporary art. Residency programme is self-directed: we provide accommodation and a work space.
Titanik A.i.R. programme is run by Arte Artists’ Association in Turku, southwestern coast of Finland. The residency has been running since 2006, shifting its focus to sound in 2013, which made it the first sound art residency in Finland. The organisation is actively working towards bringing more diversity into the field of contemporary art. We warmly encourage people from diverse backgrounds and abilities to apply.
The application period is 2 March – 1 April 2022. Each residency is 1–3 months in duration, and the call is for the following time periods:
January–June
September–December
As part of the residency, we provide a studio (20m2), which is adjoined to the contemporary art space Titanik, located in the city centre of Turku by the river Aura. Titanik is wheelchair accessible. Residents are welcome to use Titanik’s audiovisual equipment during their stay (however, availability depends on Titanik’s exhibition programme). The residents are also provided with free accommodation in a cosy, fully equipped studioapartment close to the city centre, within walking distance from Titanik. The apartment is suitable for one person or a couple. Kids and pets are welcome too, yet the apartment is only 25 m2 in size. Unfortunately, the apartment is not wheelchair accessible.
During their stay, the artists must fund their travel as well as living and working expenses, including food, transportation and materials.
The residency programme aims to provide time and space for artists to focus on their work. We also wish each selected resident will present their practice during one public event, which may be e.g. a short installation at the Titanik A.i.R. studio space, an open studio event, a screening, a talk, or a performance.
To apply fill in the application form, which includes a brief motivational statement (max. 4000 characters) and a link to a sample of recent work (e.g. website/Vimeo). You are also required to upload your CV as a pdf file (max. 2 pages and 3 MB). We accept applications in Finnish and English. The closing date is 1 April 2022. For more information contact Lotta Anttila at producer@titanik.fi
The residents for 2023 are selected by the Arte board.
At Titanik everyone is accepted and respected equally without any presuppositions, and attention is paid to everyone’s needs. In the space no form of harassment or discrimination is tolerated.
We look forward to hearing from you!
